On 27 February 2023, Professor Francesco Pilla (Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy) and Professor Mary Kelly-Quinn (Biology and Environmental Science) had an engaging conversation on what citizen science can do, chaired by Dr Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain (Mathematics and Statistics) in the UCD James Joyce Library and via Zoom.
We heard first-hand from UCD academics about the impact of their citizen science projects and their use in research and teaching at UCD; discovered how citizen science can advance knowledge, research and innovation; and is endorsed through UCD’s public engagement policy and by Horizon Europe.
This enlightening conversation provided insights into the benefits of citizen science – for staff, students, research, and for the citizens involved.
